1 in 3 ….do you like those odds?  Talking about winning Lotto, you probably do! In getting cancer, suddenly those odds don’t look so great.  Is Life Insurance worth the money?

Four weeks ago a friend of mine passed away from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  He was 40 years old. Yes, only 40. He left behind his wife and two children, aged 7 and 5. family dreamThat’s the same age as my kids.  He battled his cancer for 4 long years and his passing was almost a blessing at the end. Blessing or not, it broke many hearts.

His wife doesn’t work and didn’t have much to do with the finances. Her husband earned the money and paid all the bills. Thankfully for her, he had a financial planner who he had a long relationship with and, many years ago, had put life insurance in place. Now, while his family grieves his death, at least they aren’t having to deal with the added stress of money. They won’t be worrying about how to pay the next mortgage payment, about losing their house and having to move the children from the home that holds memories of their dad.

The reality is 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.  What will your family do if it’s you? How will you cope if it’s your partner? You can’t simply tell yourself “It won’t happen to me”. Numbers don’t lie!

A relationship with a trusted financial planner who specialises in insurance is the only way to make sure you have planned for scenarios like the one above and many more.
